What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy is treatment to relieve pain, restore or improve physical function or movement and improve mobility, flexibility, strength, balance or coordination. We may use therapeutic exercise, manual hands on therapy, home education, and modalities, which consist of ultrasound, electrical stimulation, paraffin baths, and ice or moist heat. Please see our "Services" page to learn more.

Do I need a referral from my Physician?

Not necessarily. Kentucky is a "Direct Access" state meaning that you may have the ability to see a Physical Therapist with out a referral from your Physician. However, all insurances are different so to know for sure, please contact us to see if you are eligible. Note-All Medicaid plans, including Passport, Wellcare and CoventryCares requires a referral. Please call us to discuss your options.

What should I bring to my first appointment (Initial Evaluation)?

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment. There are several pages of paperwork to fill out so if you need additional time or help, you may pick up your paperwork to take home and bring it back along with your script from your Physician (if available), your insurance card/s, any medical testing reports (such as X-Ray or MRI reports, not the films) and a form of payment in case of a deductible, coinsurance or copay.

What should I expect during my Initial Evaluation?

A lot of talking. You will see the Physical Therapy and discuss your diagnosis and treatment plans and goals. We may or may not begin actual treatment that day, depending on your condition and time restraints.

What should I wear to Physical Therapy?

We would prefer you to be comfortable. If we are seeing you for your knee, shorts or loose pants, if we are seeing you for your shoulder, a tank top, and for your back, stretch pants. Regardless of what you wear, we can accommodate with a gown or a long sheet.

How often will I be seen?

Any question about your treatment or duration should be directed to your Physical Therapist. A general rule is 2-3 times a week for 4-6 weeks, but everyone's treatment is different. Elite Physical Therapy creates a personalized program for every patient and your frequency and duration may change.
